The America’s Best Communities competition is helping us dream big! Collaborative efforts between the City of Angola, the Town of Fremont, the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation plus support of local organizations, businesses and our community are going strong. The endeavors already in place will create local entrepreneurship and a boost in quality of life. Through innovation and technology, we’ll create more local, national and global creations. The competition funds will help finalize plans and help us take steps to make these plans a reality.
So how are we doing this? The biggest ways are by creating spaces for community members, entrepreneurs and existing and expanding businesses to education and grow their existing workforces; moving product concepts to production and creating shovel-ready sites for new businesses.
The Northern Indiana Lakes Country Enterprise Center, a 70,000 square foot complex just south of downtown Angola, will house office and classroom space. In addition, the Angola Area Chamber of Commerce, the Steuben County Tourism Bureau and Work One Northeast will be located at the center. The complex space will allow for onsite training on job-specific equipment. Co-working space will allow entrepreneurs to bounce ideas off each other and expand the network of businesses supporting each other. Entrepreneurs also will have space to incubate their ideas and bring them from concept into the production phase.
Plans by the City of Angola for a Certified Technology Park are in the works at the I-69/U.S. Highway 20 interchange. The city is building partnerships to examine the best-positioned technology for our community. Demonstrating proficiency and capacity as a technology park through certification with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation will help secure national and international promotion.
The Town of Fremont is planning a 150-acre site to serve as a viable logistics center for future businesses. The center will require road access and utility services to become a hub for business product distribution. In addition, a plan to redevelop the County Road 200 West corridor is progressing, with easy highway access for business expansion and placement.
